BIOGRAPHY Zaan got her first drum kit when she was 10. Although she also plays guitar and briefly tried a bit of piano, she has always had a passion for laying down the rhythm. During her school years she had her first taste of rock ‘n roll by playing in a couple of school bands (one of which featured Jo on guitar). After school, Zaan moved to Cape Town to study Hotel- and Restaurant Management and do training to become a qualified chef. During these 4 years, because of her hectic studying-schedule and not having a place to practice or store her kit, she had to quit playing. Then, in her final year, she developed epilepsy. She finished her studies, but was not able take a full-time job. In December 2005 she moved back to Ladismith. Not being able to work made Zaan very depressed and she decided to start drumming again in an attempt to do something positive to get her focused. By June 2006 Jo needed a new drummer and Zaan’s health was improving enough that she decided to start playing with Jo full-time.
